What is Levitra Orodispersible?
Levitra orodispersible is the dissolvable version of the popular ED drug containing Vardenafil. The product created and marketed by Bayer was launched in Europe in November 2010 and in the USA (under the name Staxyn) in June 2010.
The dissolvable version of Levitra is currently only available in a 10mg dose, whereas the film-coated tablets are available in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg strengths.
backHow does Levitra Orodispersible work?
The dissolvable tabs contain the active ingredient vardenafil, which is a substance that blocks an enzyme, found primarily in the penis, called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). The PDE5 enzyme prevents blood vessels from dilating (widening) restricting blood flow, so in inhibiting PDE5, Levitra helps to produce a better erection in men who struggle with erectile dysfunction.
Just as Levitra film-coated pills, Cialis and Viagra, the orodispersible tabs only work when a man is sexually stimulated.
When should I take Levitra Orodispersible?
The benefit of taking the dissolvable soft tabs is that they get to work faster than the film-coated pills. Take one 10mg Levitra Orodispersible around 25-60 minutes before sexual intercourse, and the mint-flavoured tab will melt and disappear in a matter of seconds.
Both the film-coated and dissolvable versions of Levitra contain vardenafil, so both treatments last for around 6-8 hours.
How well does it work?
Vardenafil has been sold in film-coated tablets for a number of years, and for many men is their ED drug of choice. The proven track record of vardenafil is replicated in the soluble version and the only differences are that Levitra Orodispersible tabs simply melt on the tongue and start to work faster than the tablet version.
What are the side effects of Levitra Orodispersible?
The most commonly reported side effects of this medication are:
- Headache
- Flushing
- Dizziness
- Blocked or runny nose
- Visual disturbances, such as blurred vision, blue/green tinge to vision, watery eyes
Is there any reason why I shouldn’t take Orodispersible tabs?
If you suffer from any of the following conditions you should not take Levitra Orodispersible tabs:
- Conditions where sexual activity is not advisable (severe cardiac failure, unstable angina)
- Recent heart attack or stroke
- Low blood pressure (hypotension)
- High blood pressure (hypertension) which is not under medical care
- Hereditary degeneration of the back of the eyeball (retina), such as retinitis pigmentosa
- Severe kidney failure requiring dialysis
- Severely decreased liver function
People taking any form of nitrate medications or protease inhibitors to treat HIV infection are also advised not to take any PDE5 inhibitor because a combination of these drugs can lead to dangerously low blood pressure.
